FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 7, 2004 For more information, contact: Tracy Satterfield, American Royal (816) 221-9800 ext 113 25TH ANNUAL AMERICAN ROYAL BBQ ANNOUNCES NEW KC MASTERPIECE INVITATIONAL CONTEST CRITERIA New Qualification Criteria Defines Qualifying State Championships The American Royal issued today a new Invitational Contest qualification criteria summary for US Teams. To qualify for the 2004 Invitational contest, Teams must win a qualifying state championship* or a competition with a minimum of 50 competing teams. Only Grand Champions will be invited. Competitions must include, but are not limited to, categories for Beef, Pork and Poultry. *Two new stipulations were added to the qualification criteria further defining a qualified state championship. Competitors are encouraged to visit www.americanroyal.com for complete details. Updated Criteria for a qualifying state championship will now read: 1) Effective April 1, 2004 contests holding state championship proclamations and states with only one contest must have a minimum of 15 competing teams to be considered a qualifier. 2) Effective September 1, 2004 contests with state championship proclamations and states with only one contest will be considered qualifiers if the contest has a minimum of 15 competing teams its first year and a minimum of 25 competing teams in subsequent years. In addition, the following BBQ circuit contest winners will be invited to the American Royal 2004 KC Masterpiece Invitational Contest: *2003 American Royal Open *1999-2003 American Royal/KC Masterpiece Invitational Contest *15th Annual Jack Daniel s World Championship Invitational Barbecue *2004 Memphis in May Championship *2004 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Barbeque The American Royal, a not-for-profit organization that benefits youth and education, is now in its 105th year and celebrates our region s rich agricultural heritage through competition, education and entertainment.
