Modesto Relays, an International Track & Field Meet that enters its 64th
historic year in 2005. Modesto, CA is the home of 33 world records in
track and field. It’s only fitting that this international event

Wow! I had a GREAT time. Beautiful weather, beautiful
surroundings, beautiful food, beautiful people. Thanks to the Gold
Coast people for organizing it, and to John Hopkins (as I
understand it) for making it into a KCBS event.
I
hope someone will post a complete list of winners. Usually I take
notes of them at the awards ceremony, but I didn't do that this
time. I do have pictures of the winners I'll provide as soon as I
download them.
Congrats to that damned Raymond (oops, I mean everybody loves
Raymond) for his grand champ finish. Tom and I cooked a Zeke's
Smokehouse butt into the absolute best tasting pork I have ever
eaten, and it took
second to Raymond's. I was trying to figure out his secrets but I
passed out beside his EZ-up before I got any. And now he's moving
back
to Tennessee before I have a chance to try it again.
It was a small event, as such things go, but really special.

it by placing 1st in Chicken, 4th in Pork Ribs,
1st in Pork, and 5th in Brisket
The
First Annual California Classic was a wonderful success with a 180 in
the anything goes event. We had teams form all over the State of
California
come
in for the $1500 in Cash prizes and trophies. It was wet but the teams
were determined to not let the rain beat them.

got back from Tucson - it was fun and windy. California teams kicked
booty again - Raymond won Grand Champion. We were next to Jerry King,
who is not only a great cook, but a really good guy also - he has a
converted horse trailer, and is very entertaining with stories about
adventures on the BBQ circuit. (he was reserve grand champion.)

The Coyote Road Kill Cooking team tied for
Grand Champions at the B n' B Arizona State BBQ Championship Cook-Off
held this weekend!!! A computer coin-toss determined
the Grand Champion to be the "Arizona Kid" who owns the BBQ
Restaurant "The Pitts Again". Coyote Road Kill was
awarded Reserve Champion. More photos and a story coming soon!
